Standing and evidence
What We Claim, and What We Refuse to Claim
Licence numbers are easy to invent and hard to check. This page tells you what is verifiable and how to check it yourself.
Revised September 2026
Insurance Plan Source is an independent comparison and referral service operating from 400 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102. This page is deliberately short, because a long list of licence numbers would imply a set of regulatory authorisations we cannot evidence.
What this business is
- check_circle A referral and comparison service. We introduce consumers to insurance entities.
- check_circle An advertising publisher. How we are paid is described in the referral disclosure.
- check_circle The operator of Insurance Plan Source, trading as Insurance Plan Source LLC, at the address above.
What this business is not
About licence numbers
A property and casualty producer licence is a state authorisation, and it is only valid in the state that issued it. National or international registrations, cross-border certifications, and non-US regulator listings mean nothing for a US consumer, and a fifty-state claim is a very specific claim that has to be evidenced licence by licence.
We do not publish a grid of licence numbers here. If you have been given a number by anyone, including us, check it against the issuing state's own record rather than against a website. The steps below take a few minutes.
This page also does not claim a business entity registration number. Entity records are held by a secretary of state rather than an insurance regulator, and we will not print a number we have not confirmed against that record. The registered office address is the verifiable fact, and it is stated on this page, in the footer of every page, and in the site's structured data.
How to verify any entity yourself
Every insurance department in the United States runs a public licence search, and most run a complaint and enforcement record alongside it. The searches are free, and nobody legitimate will object to you running one.
- 1Find the regulator for your state. Search the web for your state insurance department, or start from your state legislature's site, which links to the current department.
- 2Open the producer or licensee search. Look for a link named for licencees, producers, agents, or companies rather than for policy lookup.
- 3Search the exact legal name. Use the name that will appear on a quote or a declaration page, not a brand name or a website domain.
- 4Read the status, not just the number. A live licence that has expired, been surrendered, or lapsed is not a licence. Check the standing and the expiration date.
- 5Run the enforcement search too. A clean licence record and a disciplinary record live in different places. Check both.
- 6Check the carrier too. The company that underwrites the policy is a separate entity with its own record. Ask for its name, then look that up the same way.
If a record does not come back at all, that is a finding in itself. A party who cannot produce a public record is not entitled to your details.
Confirming a business registration
A licence search will not tell you whether a company is incorporated. For that, use the secretary of state's business search in the state where the entity claims to be formed, which is normally available as a free public search. A registered agent name, an incorporation date, and a standing status will appear there if the entity exists as described.
What sits behind the coverage we show
Nothing on this site is underwritten by us. Every quote is produced by an insurance company authorised in the state where the vehicle, building, business, animal, or trip is situated, and every policy is issued by that company. If a party quotes you, their name will be on the quote and the insurer's name will be on the declaration page. Verify both.
Where to go next
The companion page explains how to read a regulator result, how financial strength ratings are published, and why a rating is not a promise. Read it before you rely on a number printed on a quote.
